The Many Dangers of Hyperthyroidism

Elevated levels of T4 and T3 hormones are often the main cause for a condition which is known as hyperthyroidism. There is no doubt that there are various dangers of hyperthyroidism and unless steps are taken to diagnose and treat the problem, things could easily go out of control. We have to understand the fact that apart from various other hormones, thyroid is best known for production of T3 and T4 hormones. T3 is used for efficient absorption of oxygen by blood cells. However, unless T4 is available in the body, it cannot produce T3. Hence, both this hormones are complementary and supplementary to each other. Excess secretion of both these hormones could lead to various situations which are often referred to as dangers of hyperthyroidism.  In the normal circumstances, the secretion of T3 and T4 hormones are just right to keep the body running, at the right efficiency rate. Due to various reasons when the thyroid function goes awry, the secretion of these hormones goes out of control. While deficiency of these hormones has its own share of problems, excess secretion leads the various dangers of hyperthyroidism. One of the most common problems when hormones secreted by thyroid are elevated is that it hampers the metabolism of the body. Hyperthyroidism leads to increased metabolism which, in turn, leads to insufficient absorption of the various nutrients by the cells, especially oxygen. This leads to obesity coupled with moderate to severe tiredness. There are also other problems which could also lead to some of the greatest dangers of hyperthyroidism. For example, people suffering from this problem often suffer from increased heart beats basically because of increased metabolic rates.

Though in the normal course if your heart beats fast, it should not be much of a problem, if it is due to hyperthyroidism, you should be very careful. It could lead to some serious problems for the heart and many people have suffered fatal heart attacks because of this problem. Hence, as far as dangers of hyperthyroidism are concerned, the heart is one of the most important organs that get affected. Of the various others dangers of hyperthyroidism, one cannot ignore the problem of obesity or weight loss. Quite often, people misread such weight gain or weight loss and try to link it to some other problem, though it could have been due to increased levels of hormone secretion from the thyroid gland. In most cases, the biggest dangers of hyperthyroidism are wrong diagnosis and trying to link the symptoms with some other problem. Though there are instances of people putting on weight because of enhanced thyroid hormone levels, generally, it has been found that people tend to lose weight because of this problem. Thus, any unexplained weight loss could be attributed to malfunctioning of the thyroid gland and this is one of the greatest dangers of hyperthyroidism that should be kept in mind. However, there are situations wherein because of hyperthyroidism people tend to eat more and this, in turn, could lead to unexplained weight gain, though such instances are few and far between.

There are a number of other problems associated with enhanced levels of hormone secretion from the thyroid gland. These include trembling hands, palpitations, insomnia, moderate to severe diarrhea, loss of hair, skin problems, muscle weakness and nervousness. All these problems need to be addressed immediately, failing which it could lead to varying degrees of dangers of hyperthyroidism. Hence, before going in for the various tests to find out increased hormone secretion levels, it is important to keep a close tab on the above symptoms which will help in identifying the problem, at the right time and help reduce the various dangers of hyperthyroidism.
